Christ the King Antiochian Orthodox Church of Edmonton

Western Rite Canonical Orthodoxy in Edmonton, Alberta.

A Message From Fr. Michael

Come and Discover the Ancient Faith
What if the Christianity of the early Church is still here?

Dear Friends,

Have you ever wondered what Christianity looked like before the Reformation, before denominations, and before the many divisions that exist among Christians today?
If you are beginning to explore Orthodoxy, you may be discovering that the Christian faith is much older—and much richer—than many of us were taught. At Christ the King Orthodox Church, we invite you to take a step back and discover the Faith of the Apostles: the faith of the early Christians, preserved and lived by the Orthodox Church for nearly 2,000 years.
And you don't have to leave the Christian heritage of the West behind.
An Ancient Faith in the Western TraditionChrist the King is a Western Rite Orthodox parish. We worship according to the ancient Western Christian tradition, while remaining fully Orthodox in our Faith, doctrine, and sacramental life.
Our services are celebrated in English, with the beauty and reverence of the Traditional Latin Mass expressed in a language you can understand. The Psalms are chanted at Vespers and Lauds, Scripture is proclaimed and preached, and the worship of the Church invites us to do more than simply learn about God—we come together to worship Him.
For those coming from a Protestant background, this can be an opportunity to encounter familiar elements of Christianity--the Bible, preaching, prayer, the Psalms, Christ and the Gospel—within the ancient liturgical and sacramental life of the Church.
Why Are So Many Christians Searching?Over the past several decades, many Christians have found themselves asking difficult questions.
Why has church attendance declined so dramatically?
Why do so many people feel disconnected from their faith?
Why are there so many different denominations and competing interpretations of Christianity?
And perhaps most importantly:

What did the early Christians actually believe, and how did they worship?
These are not merely historical questions. They are deeply personal ones.
Perhaps you have attended church for years but still feel that something is missing. Perhaps you have grown tired of constantly searching for the newest teaching, program, or worship style. Or perhaps you simply want to know whether there is a Christianity that is deeper than cultural Christianity and older than the divisions of our modern world.
If that sounds familiar, we invite you to come and see.
Scripture, Tradition, and the Faith of the ApostlesAs you explore Orthodoxy, you will discover that the Orthodox Church has a profound love for the Holy Scriptures.
The Bible is not set aside in Orthodoxy. It is at the heart of the Church's worship, preaching, prayer, and theology. At the same time, the Orthodox Church understands Scripture within the living Tradition of the Church—the same Church that received, preserved, proclaimed, and handed down the Christian faith from the Apostles.
For many Protestants, this raises important questions—and that's a good thing.
You don't have to have all the answers before you come.
Come with your questions. Come with your Bible. Come ready to listen, pray, and discover.
Discover Christianity Before the DenominationsOrthodoxy is not simply another denomination competing for your attention.
It is the ancient Christian Church that has preserved the Faith handed down by Christ to His Apostles and transmitted through generations of Christians.
Here you will encounter a Christianity shaped by Scripture, the Apostles, the Sacraments, the ancient Creeds, the Fathers of the Church, prayer, fasting, and the worship of God.
And through the Western Rite, you can encounter this ancient Orthodox Faith through a form of worship rooted in the historic Christian tradition of the West.
You Are Welcome HereYou may be Protestant. You may be Catholic. You may have no church background at all.
You may be completely new to Orthodoxy—or simply curious.
You are welcome.
You don't need to know when to stand, kneel, cross yourself, or respond. You don't need to understand everything the first time you walk through the door. And you certainly don't need to have already decided where your spiritual journey will lead.
Simply come and see.
Pray with us. Listen to the Scriptures. Experience the beauty of ancient Christian worship. Ask questions. Meet our community.
Perhaps, as so many have discovered, you will find that what you have been searching for is not something new at all.
Perhaps it is something ancient.
Perhaps it is the Faith of the Apostles.
Come and SeeIf you are beginning to explore Orthodoxy, we would be honoured to welcome you to Christ the King Orthodox Church.
Come discover an ancient Faith.
Come experience the beauty of Western Christian worship.
Come hear the Scriptures proclaimed.
Come encounter the sacramental life of the Church.
Come and ask your questions.

Come and see.
And perhaps you will discover that you haven't found something new--
you have come home.
May God bless you, and I look forward to meeting you.
In Christ,
Fr. Michael+

“Never, never, never let anyone tell you that, in order to be Orthodox, you must also be Eastern. The West was Orthodox for a thousand years, and her venerable liturgy is far older than any of her heresies.” — St. John Maximovitch
